At Colón Partners, P.A., our market strategy is focused on Corporate, Technology, and Employment law. We made this decision in part to leverage over 50 years of combined in-house experience with Fortune 100 companies as well as small-medium size companies, in these specific areas, and because we enjoy our work in these areas. While we help entrepreneurs and their start-ups, as well as small, medium and large companies, our target clients are mostly privately owned businesses under $25 million in revenue per year.
Our firm was founded by Jorge Colón. Mr. Colón grew up in England and Switzerland. He fulfilled his family legacy of at least one family member in each generation studying law when he graduated from Georgetown Law in 1992. He is part of a 100+ year legacy of lawyers. His wife also comes from a family of lawyers. Law and professional service is in their family DNA.
Experience
Mr. Colón has 23 years of legal experience in the Media & Entertainment, Technology, and Asset Protection industries. In the 90s, he was the judicial law clerk to the Chief Judge of a United States District Court upon graduation from Georgetown Law. He founded the Miami law firm of Trainor, Colón and Rivera, and continued to serve as GC to a private equity venture, and as counsel at Whittman-Hart, a billion-dollar technology company in Chicago.
He worked for General Electric (GE) at their NBC Universal division, he also worked at the Telemundo Networks, Viacom International Media Networks (including MTV, Nickelodeon, and Comedy Central), and he was the lawyer for the tabloids, including the National Enquirer, Star Magazine, Globe, HollywoodLife.com, Gossip Extra, and Radar Online.
Jorge was the Founder of the internationally recognized legal bar association, The Online Bar. He spent 2 years as co-Founder of the now shuttered start-up Famebook. He has launched several lean start-ups himself from Consumer Counselors, and Copreneurs.org, to SCALE (Social Capital Accelerator for Leaders and Entrepreneurs), and Lexpreneur. In 2013, his team at Stanford’s Technology Start-Up online class came 2nd out of hundreds of teams, and he served as a mentor to other teams in 2014.
Education
Mr. Colón attended Hill House (famous for educating Prince Charles, Duke of Wales) and at Dulwich College (an Eton group school) in London, England. In the US, he received scholarships and grants to attend, Rider University in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, and Georgetown University Law Center in Washington D.C.
He also has extensive business training from Instituto De Empresa (ranked #1 Business school in the world) in Spain, and George Washington University’s Masters Program for Professional Service Firms. He started his first lean start up in College.
